2 Poems by Stephanie Valente

WOLF BITE

it will only happen during a supermoon:

i promise, there are fields + wine + men

some women,

that you wish you could possess or become

you haven’t figured that part out yet,

maybe one day you will

after your palms crack, asphalt bangs

up your legs & there’s a point to lost

summer evenings where you wept,

but sweetheart, what if i told you

there was enough death in the air

except for this one, last bite?

IF YOU EVER NEED TO SUMMON ME, START WITH THESE 10 INCANTATIONS OR PHRASES

  1. does this dress come in black?

  2. this calls for coffee.

  3. i don’t smoke, but who has a cigarette?

  4. my dream is to be surrounded by puppies.

  5. everyone is so dumb.

  6. why though?

  7. let’s get pizza.

  8. thanks! i bought it for $10.

  9. i mean, don’t you agree?

  10. i need to exit this planet immediately.
